Disney Cancels “Doogie Kamealoha M.D.”

Disney+

Disney+ has officially cancelled its gender-swapped “Doogie Howser M.D.” reimagining “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” after two seasons.

The news of the show’s axing arrives five months after the Hawaii-set show’s ten-episode second season was released on the streaming service.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee starred in the new series as 16-year-old prodigy Lahela ‘Doogie’ Kamealoha who juggled a budding medical career and life as a teenager.

The first season ran in a weekly format from September to November of 2021 in which she pursued medicine and her crush on a chilled surfer named Walter (Alex Aiono).

The second season was released all at once in March and followed Lahela as she realized Walter wasn’t the same after returning from the World Surf Tour and found herself newly attracted to bad boy Nico (Milo Manheim) who was battling leukemia.

The show also starred Emma Meisel as Lahela’s best friend Steph, Matt Sato and Wes Tian as Lahela’s brothers Kai and Brian Patrick, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Mapuana Makia as Lahela’s coworkers Charles and Noelani, Kathleen Rose Perkins as Lahela’s mom/boss Dr. Hannon, and Jason Scott Lee as Lahela’s dad Benny.

Barry Bostwick, Randall Park, Daniel Dae Kim, to Alyson Hannigan, Magic Johnson, Margaret Cho and Max Greenfield were among the show’s guest stars.
