Eddie Murphy is coming back to television as the “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Coming to America” star leads the drama series “The Chairman” at Peacock.
“Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner is spearheading the series which hails from “Yellowstone” and “MobLand” producer 101 Studios and Universal Television.
Though he has starred in many films, Murphy has never headlined a scripted series. In the 1990s, he did create animated comedy “The PJs” for FOX and “The Royal Family” for CBS.
Details of the new series, including character and plot specifics, have not been disclosed. Weiner will write and executive produce the show, his first series pickup since “The Romanoffs” for Amazon in 2018.
Murphy will also executive produce the show. He most recently was seen in the Netflix documentary “Being Eddie” last year and had both “The Pickup” and “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” debuting not that long ago.
Murphy’s next role is reprising the part of Donkey in “Shrek 5” next year.
