Skydance chief David Ellison has reportedly asked James Gunn and Peter Safran to keep running DC Studios four years after the pair were first announced for the job.
According to Deadline, they will continue to lead the film, TV, and comic book production hub after Paramount closes its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery next week.
The pair had a recent meeting with Ellison about their future, and things went well. Ellison previously visited the set of Gunn’s “Superman” sequel “Man of Tomorrow,” which filmed earlier this year.
All film units, including Paramount and Warner Bros., are to report to Paramount Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.
Gunn and Safran’s DC Studios has had a mixed track record. Both “Superman” and “Lanterns” have done very well, but “Supergirl” was a critical and commercial bomb, while “Peacemaker” and “Creature Commandos” were well liked and did enough viewership to garner second seasons.
Next from the studio is “Clayface” later this month, which is headed for a $23-33 million opening weekend, and next year’s “Man of Tomorrow”.
