“Star Wars” has had a very mixed bag when it comes to the quality of its video game adaptations, but one new title has set an impressive record.
“Star Wars: Galactic Racer” hits stores on Monday, and today it has been revealed that the title has racked up a highly impressive 88/100 Metacritic score.
That makes it the best-reviewed “Star Wars” game in over two decades and the best since “Knights of the Old Republic” arrived with a 94/100 back in 2003.
Here’s a sampling of reviews:
“These worlds don’t just look beautiful, they’re also carved up into fascinating tracks that blend tight underground corridors where cornering is a constant discussion with death, and daringly wide-open outside sections where I once got so turned around I ended up going backwards.” – EuroGamer
“Every moment feels joyfully fast. Every decision carries the weight of tension. And every run is a rewarding chance to learn, improve, tinker, and adapt, whether it ends in success or failure. I can’t wait to keep playing what’s been my favorite racing game in years.” – Gamespot
“A thoughtfully designed triumph. The excellent handling and eye-popping presentation would be enough to recommend the game alone, but I also love its buildcrafting aspects and roguelite campaign.” – PushSquare
“Star Wars Galactic Racer is the best arcade racer in years. It mixes compelling racing action, an addictive progression system, and excellent world building while stringing a narrative through it all. It’s very fast, and very dangerous. It’s also very, very good.” – TheSixthAxis
“Star Wars Galactic Racer seriously impressed me. While the roguelite mechanics initially threw me for a loop when I first played the game earlier this year, after several hours with the game I can safely say they’ve earned their place in the genre. I’d be down to play more racers that adopt the idea” – GamingBible
“Star Wars: Galactic Racer is pretty much everything it should be. Threading the needle between next-gen Burnout and Star Wars-themed racer, it ‘s frantic, fun and incredibly enjoyable to play. The arcade-style action is a pure delight, and the run-based nature of the campaign gives it a ton of replay value” – Worth Playing
It follows on from the turn-based strategy game “Star Wars Zero Company” the other month, which also had an impressive 86/100 score.
Both titles are up there with what had been the high points of recent times with the “Jedi: Fallen Order” and “Jedi: Survivor” titles at 79 & 85 respectively – well above the likes of “Outlaws” at 75 or the modern “Battlefront” titles at 73 & 68.
