Wrapping up the final season of Starz’s piracy drama “Black Sails,” British actor Toby Stephens is making the jump to another high-profile, big-budget project – Netflix’s remake of Irwin Allen’s 1965 cult TV classic “Lost in Space”.
The ten-episode first season centers on the Robinson family who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
Stephens will play the father and expedition commander – astrophysicist John Robinson, a role that Guy Williams played in the original series and William Hurt took on in the 1998 film adaptation.
He joins a cast that includes Maxwell Jenkins (“Sense8”) as the youngest child Will Robinson, and Taylor Russell as the eldest daughter Judy. The key roles of Major West and Dr. Zachary Smith have yet to be cast with the project slated for a 2018 premiere.
