Former “Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist will replace “Buffy” star Sarah Michelle Gellar as the voice of Teela in the Netflix animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revolution”.
This marks the continuation of Kevin Smith’s 2021 He-Man adaptation “Masters Of The Universe: Revelation” at Netflix. ‘Revolution’ finds Teela alongside He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness.
Whereas the first season of ‘Masters’ effectively sidelined He-Man for a good portion of its early episodes, leading to a backlash, Mattel seemingly wants to make it clear that won’t happen this time saying in the press release: “Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before.”
In the said statement, Benoist says: “I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine. I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”
The re-casting will now see actual husband and wife Benoist and Chris Wood starring opposite each other with Wood reprising his role of Prince Adam/He-Man. Mark Hamill is also back as Skeletor, whilst William Shatner is involved in a still-to-be-announced role.
“Masters of the Universe: Revolution” is set to debut on Netflix in 2024 with Smith, Ted Biaselli, Fred Soulie, Rob David and Christopher Keenan executive producing.
