This weekend, “Avengers: Endgame” looks like it might be toppled off its first place at the box-office position with the arrival of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”.
The third installment of the action franchise is reportedly heading for an opening weekend of around $30-35 million with some predicting it could go up to $40 million. That would easily be a franchise best with the first opening to $14.4 million and the second to $30.1 million. Early reviews have been raves.
‘Endgame’, now in its fourth weekend, is expected to collect around $27 million. That assumes it declines at the rate it has been going the past two weekends with drops offs of roughly 58%. ‘Endgame’ is currently the third-highest grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office, and its global total of $2.48 billion is closing in on the $2.78 billion total of “Avatar”.
Amblin’s pooch sequel “A Dog’s Journey” is also opening and on track for $10-14 million, while young adult romance drama “The Sun Is Also a Star” is headed for a $6-12 million debut. Despite the super-sized injection of ‘Endgame,’ overall box-office for the year is over 9% behind last year at the same time according to Comscore.
