AMC+ has premiered the teaser trailer for “Monsieur Spade,” a new Clive Owen-led neo-noir crime drama that hails from multiple creative legends and co-creators Scott Frank and Tom Fontana.
Frank broke through as a writer of celebrated films like “Minority Report,” “Out of Sight,” “Malice” and “Logan” before writing/directing two acclaimed Netflix series – “Godless” and the massively successful “The Queen’s Gambit”.
Fontana is a TV legend, a writer/director on “Homicide: Life on the Street” before he went on to create HBO’s “Oz”. More recently he’s been a showrunner on Showtime’s “City on a Hill”.
The six-episode series serves as something of a decades-later follow-up to Dashiell Hammett’s iconic novel “The Maltese Falcon” with Owen taking on the role of hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade previously played on screen by Humphrey Bogart.
In the series, Spade is now 60 and living as an expat in the south of France in 1963. His attempts at a quiet retirement are interrupted by the murder of six nuns at a local convent.
The investigator is out of his element and, when rumors implicate a young child with purported supernatural abilities, Spade is forced to reconsider everything that he thinks he knows.
The cast includes Cara Bossom, Louise Bourgoin, Denis Ménochet, Stanley Weber, Chiara Mastroianni, Jonathan Zaccaï, Rebecca Root and Matthew Beard. It’s expected the series will air in early 2024.
