“Sweet Magnolias” Canceled At Netflix

Netflix

Netflix has canceled its feel-good small-town drama “Sweet Magnolias” after five seasons.

The series closed out its most recent run by giving all its main characters effectively happy endings, aside from Dana Sue and Ronnie whose marriage imploded. The show follows a trio of lifelong best friends who also co-own a spa in their sleepy hometown of Serenity, South Carolina.

As recently as June, the streamer still hadn’t decided on the show’s future, even as it ranked as the streamer’s second-most-watched TV series at the time. Now they have, but it’s not all bad news for the fans.

According to TV Line, the streaming giant has ordered a new drama series, “Ladies of the House,” starring JoAnna Garcia Swisher who is back alongside showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson.

That series follows a wife and two adult daughters who take over a family winery after the owner’s death and “must battle through their issues with each other in order to confront challenges with the business, their extended family, and the men in their lives.”

No word as to when that is expected to make it to air.
