“Shameless” and “Gotham” alum Cameron Monaghan and “Yellowjackets” actress Sarah Desjardins are joining the cast of “TRON: Ares” at Disney. The pair joins an impressive cast that includes Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lee so far.

The first “TRON” in 1982 saw Jeff Bridges starring as video game designer Kevin Flynn who is transported inside his own creation and teams up with a security program named TRON (Bruce Boxleitner). “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski created the 2010 sequel “TRON: Legacy” which was a decent performer acclaimed for its visual style and soundtrack.

The new film will reportedly focus on the emergence of Ares, a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact. Leto will play the human manifestation of that program.

Details of whom the two new additions are playing are under wraps. In recent years Monaghan is best known for lending his voice and likeness to the Cal Kestis character in the video games “Star Wars: Jedi – Fallen Order” and “Star Wars: Jedi – Survivor”.

Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) will direct “TRON: Ares” from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.

Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer and Leto are producing. Filming on the project is expected to begin as early as August in Vancouver, though the potential actor’s strike could impact that.
