Filmmaker Mike P. Nelson has been announced as the director of the upcoming “Saw” film at Lionsgate and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Nelson helms the upcoming anaconda-themed horror film “Beware Boiúna” which opens in cinemas next week, and previously directed the remake/reimaginings of “Wrong Turn” and “Silent Night, Deadly Night”.
In a statement, Lionsgate film boss Adam Fogelson says he has full faith in Nelson: “He has a singular vision for this film, and we’re incredibly confident in what he’ll deliver.”
Wan said in a statement: “Making the original Saw was a defining experience for me, so it was essential to find a director who would honour that world. Mike has a raw, distinctive filmmaking voice with an inventive approach to the genre, and I believe he’ll bring something truly unique and special to the franchise.”
The project marks the first “Saw” entry in a long time to have the original film’s director James Wan involved creatively. Wan and Whannell will produce the new instalment with Jason Blum.
“Dune: Prophecy” scribes Gregory Weidman & Geoff Tock penned the script for the film, which follows in the wake of 2023’s “Saw X” that grossed $112.8 million globally and drew some of the best reviews of the franchise.
