David Fincher is set to direct and Brad Pitt to return to star in the upcoming sequel to zombie epic “World War Z” at Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions.
New Paramount CEO and chairman Jim Gianopulos, who has a long-standing relationship with Fincher, has not officially official greenlit the movie yet, he is expected to do so in coming weeks. Production would probably begin in the first quarter of 2018.
The word first came last year that Pitt had been courting Fincher to direct the film and that the director was intrigued by the idea. Gianopulos has since taken over the studio reins has been weighing which projects to pursue and let go from the previous regime’s slate – this has proven an obvious keeper.
Fincher hasn’t directed a film since “Gone Girl,” but recently shot the Netflix pilot “Mind Hunters”. Fincher is always weary of sequels, but Pitt certainly has his ear – the pair having previously collaborated on “Se7en,” “Fight Club” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.
