With the “Deadpool” sequel currently in development ahead of an early 2017 filming start, there comes the inevitable question of which new cast members will join Ryan Reynolds in the mockingly-toned superhero follow-up.
Of course the biggest question is who will play Cable, the gruff time-traveling mutant son of Scott Summers & Madelyne Pryor who is expected to finally show his face on screen. During the most recent installment of Meet The Movie Press, Mashable reporter Jeff Sneider revealed the name that’s he’s been hearing and has apparently been circulating for months:
“People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There’s been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn’t changed, don’t know if it’s changed. Didn’t make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler.”
Yep, the Emmy-winning “Friday Night Lights” and “Bloodline” regular who has also had key roles in numerous high profile films including “The Wolf Of Wall Street,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Argo”. On top of that, Sneider says the studio is also considering another X-Force member – Neena Thurman a.k.a. Domino:
“The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis.”
Davis, a regular on AMC’s “Halt and Catch Fire,” has also been making good headway into films with “The Martian,” “That Awkward Moment” and the upcoming “Blade Runner” sequel.
“Deadpool” grossed over $782.6 million worldwide earlier this year from a modest $58 million budget and the studio says they’ve little intention to blow out the sequel’s budget – Chandler and Davis being good choices for the price point they’re likely aiming for.
Tim Miller returns to direct while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will once again pen the script.
