“Moonlight” and “The Knick” star André Holland is the latest name to join the cast of Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ’85” at Universal Pictures.
Michael B. Jordan plays Ricardo Tubbs, and Austin Butler is James ‘Sonny’ Crockett in the movie that will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami as it follows two detectives who work undercover.
Dan Gilroy pens the project which is said to be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series, which Michael Mann produced and was hugely influential on the TV and cultural landscape.
Specifics of Holland’s character are under wraps, but he joins an increasingly stacked cast that also includes John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins, Alden Ehrenreich, Edi Gathegi, Danny Ramirez, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, and Andrew Schulz.
Leguizamo recently discussed his first real acting gig, which was a guest appearance as a drug lord’s son on the original “Miami Vice” series.
Kosinski is directing the project that aims to begin production in November and will shoot in New York and Miami. The project is being shot for IMAX and will open in cinemas May 19th 2028.
