Screenwriter Zak Penn, who penned the Steven Spielberg-directed film “Ready Player One” in 2018, is reportedly penning the sequel “Ready Player Two” according to The Direct.
Based on Ernest Cline’s 2020 novel, the story is set after Wade Watts wins control of the virtual-reality system known as the OASIS.
Wade and his friends discover a brain–computer interface, created by OASIS founder James Halliday, and undertake another quest.
The sequel was first announced in 2020, with Spielberg revealing in 2024 he would only produce the sequel, not direct.
Speaking with the outlet on the red carpet for “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” Penn confirms his involvement and says of the film’s script, “I am working on it.”
The original film grossed $608 million worldwide on a $175 million budget.
