Australian streaming platform Stan has closed a deal with Hollywood studio Disney which will lock up Australian streaming rights to the studio’s most valuable assets.
The deal includes key animation titles along with its Marvel, Pixar and “Star Wars” libraries. The deal was finalised yesterday and takes effect later this week. Disney’s Netflix deal expired earlier this year.
This comes as Disney gears up to launch the US-based streaming service Disney+, and this deal in Australia suggests Disney+ won’t be coming to global markets anytime soon – meaning deals with local streaming providers will take place to pump out its content.
