Warner Bros. Television has announced that an untitled documentary is in the works at HBO Max about the seminal coming-of-age series “Gilmore Girls” which ran from 2000-2007.
Bonni Cohen (“In Waves and War”) will direct the project, which marks the first-ever authorised doc about the show, more than 25 years after it premiered.
Series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, star Lauren Graham and various additional key cast and crew are all participating.
Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Liz Torres, Todd Lowe, Keiko Agena, Emily Kuroda, Kelly Bishop, Edward Herrmann, Adam Brody, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Sean Gunn co-starred in the series.
The documentary will tackle how the series surpassed all expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon. It will also include never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and script pages.
This Machine Filmworks and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television are backing the project which will be executive produced by Mark Blatty, Jane Cha Cutler, R.J. Cutler, Daniel Palladino, Elise Pearlstein, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and Trevor Smith; producers, Bonni Cohen and Melissa Robledo.
Netflix revived the series in 2016 with “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” four telemovies that premiered in 2016.
