Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling is set to both star in and direct a remake of the Taylor Hackford-directed 1980 biopic “The Idolmaker” for MGM says Deadline.
The story follows the life of rock promoter/producer Bob Marcucci, who discovered Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Ray Sharkey starred in the original.
Gosling has two films coming out this year – the action thriller “Drive” which premieres in Cannes this week, and the rom-com “Crazy Stupid Love” opening this Summer.
