“Murderbot” Renewed For Season 2

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has handed out a second season order for its recent series “Murderbot” starring Alexander Skarsgard. The renewal comes one day ahead of the show’s first season finale this Friday.

Oscar nominees Chris and Paul Weitz are behind the ten-episode series based on Martha Wells’ best-selling, Hugo and Nebula Award winning book series “The Murderbot Diaries”.

The first season has done fairly well with critics, pulling in a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 70/100 on Metacritic.

The story follows a self-hacking security construct (Skarsgård) who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

The Weitz brothers said in a statement: “We’re so grateful for the response that Murderbot has received and delighted that we’re getting to go back to Martha Wells’ world to work with Alexander, Apple, CBS Studios and the rest of the team”.

Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski co-star. The Weitz brothers wrote, directed and produced while Andrew Miano, David S. Goyer and Keith Levine executive produce.
