It’s official, Antonio Banderas will join Nicolas Cage as the leads of the fifth season of HBO’s “True Detective”.

While the new season doesn’t have a title as yet, the run will be set around Jamaica Bay, New York – an estuary on the southern portion of the western tip of Long Island. The area is filled with salt marshes and offrun from sewers.
Banderas will star as Rai García while Cage will play the role of Henry Logan, but further specifics about their characters are under wraps.
López serves as writer and director, executive producing alongside writer Daniel Zelman as well as Mari Jo Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey, Cage, Banderas, Steve Golin, Richard Brown, Nic Pizzolatto, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
Overall the series has been nominated for 41 Emmys and won six, the fourth being the most-watched installment of the show to date with 12.7 million cross-platform viewers.
Production on the new run is set to kick off in 2027.
