The other day, the ‘Encore’ re-release of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame” pushed the film’s overall gross to $2.9255 billion.
That means it has surpassed James Cameron’s “Avatar” at $2.9237 billion to become the highest-grossing film in box-office history.
As has become something of a tradition when that happens, the director of the film that has been pushed to second has released artwork congratulating the new box-office king.
The tradition began with Steven Spielberg congratulating George Lucas when “Star Wars” overtook “Jaws” as the highest-grossing film of all time in the late 1970s.
Today, Cameron has done just that with artwork of Iron Man being welcomed by Na’vi and signed by Cameron with congrats to Marvel.
This marks the second time ‘Endgame’ has taken the record from “Avatar”, the first being in July 2019, with re-releases leading to the very close totals of both films one-upping each other. “Avatar” retook the crown back in March 2021 and held onto it until now.
