Gunn & Safran Talk DC Slate, Wild Rumors

DC Studios

With Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Pictures complete, and with DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran staying in place, a few comments have emerged about the future of the DC Universe.

Speaking with THR, Safran says their new boss David Ellison is up to speed on where it’s all going:

“We really took him into the tent and talked about where we see it going over the next number of years so he’s got a really good sense of what we want to do and he seems to be embracing that idea.”

The first film under the new management is “Clayface” next week, which has a confirmed budget of just $30 million. That’s very good news as the film is currently tracking for a $29 million domestic and $46 million worldwide opening weekend. Safran adds:

“We always talked about the idea that a DC slate should have tremendous scope of tones and vibes and scales and scopes and budget levels. The fact that we get to make a DC movie that is a pure body horror movie, that is a dream come true.”

Gunn has also shot down three recent rumours – that Matt Reeves is off “The Batman: Part II,” that Milly Alcock has been fired from the Supergirl role and that “Man of Tomorrow” has test screened. Gunn says on Threads:

“You guys just have to stop listening to BS, and I’m mostly done shooting down rumours as there are so many, and I’m not on here much. But all three of these couldn’t be more false. I’m showing PETER SAFRAN my first Director’s Cut [of Man of Tomorrow] today – he’s the first person to see it obviously – and that’s a month early.”

Gunn did confirm that Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis will voice Mister Miracle and Big Barda in the “Mister Miracle” animated series, blaming Safran’s “loose lips” for that casting getting out.

A user also asked if plans for DCU Batman had “changed creatively in some way since the 2023 announcement of The Brave and the Bold?” to which he replied a brief “Yep”.
