Nintendo looks to have another Game of the Year contender on its hands going by the reviews for this Friday’s “Super Mario Bros. Wonder”.
With 80 reviews counted, the Switch exclusive title has racked up a 93/100 on Metacritic which ties it with the “Resident Evil 4” remake as third highest scoring new game this year – behind only “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” and “Baldur’s Gate 3” which are tied on 96/100.
The score also puts it just ahead of “Street Fighter 6” (92), “Diablo IV” (91), “Sea of Stars” (91), “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” (90), “Dave the Diver” (90), “Rogue Legacy 2” (90), the “Dead Space” Remake (89), “Hi-Fi Rush” (89), “Final Fantasy XVI” (87), “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew” (87) and “Starfield” (86).
It’s also well ahead of rival Sonic the Hedgehog whose new game “Sonic Superstars” released yesterday with a 75/100. “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” has also scored a bunch of 10/10 reviews and boasts only one review below an 8/10 with that being a 7/10.
VG247 writes: “Within the understood parameters of what 2D Mario can be, this has to be the single best entry since Super Mario World – and is the perfect first game to launch a new era of Mario games with his new-found elevation to movie star status.”
“Super Mario Bros. Wonder” will be released in stores on October 20th.
