Game developer Nightdive Studios has earned a strong reputation for game preservation.
The group picks up rights to abandoned video games, updating them for compatibility with modern platforms, and re-releasing them via digital distribution.
Most recently, they released the remake of “System Shock” back in May to very good reviews, along with the recent ‘enhanced’ version of “Quake II” earlier this month.
Now, the company has announced a modern-day remaster of the iconic 1995 game “Star Wars: Dark Forces” is in development.
In the game, you play Kyle Katarn – a mercenary employed by the Rebel Alliance who takes on a series of missions to help the fight against the Empire.
The remaster will support up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second depending on the platform. It will also reportedly feature “advanced 3D rendering, redone cut scenes, modern gamepad support, trophies and achievements, and more.”
“Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster” will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC. A release date will be announced later this year.
Nightdive is also developing a remaster of “Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion”.
