In a now-deleted Reddit post picked up by XFire, an alleged former employee at Virtuos Games has indicated a remake of Bethesda’s “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” is in development at the studio.
According to the site (via Insider Gaming), a mod for the subreddit where the story emerged reportedly suggested they verified proof that the leaker was a former employee at Virtuos Games.
The original post indicated the remaster is running using a combination of Unreal Engine 5 for the graphics, and the Oblivion engine for the gameplay/physics, and is aiming to release by the end of 2024 to early 2025.
Virtuos is said to be working on several projects right now including the already announced “Metal Gear Solid 3” ground-up remake, a new DLC expansion for “New World,” a narrative climbing game, and an AAA title “described as Monster Hunter X Shadow of the Colossus”.
‘Oblivion’ was first released in 2006 and has sold an estimated 9.5 million copies worldwide according to market research firm Electronic Entertainment Design and Research.
A remaster would tide fans over for the long wait until “The Elder Scrolls VI” arrives, which Xbox’s Phil Spencer previously confirmed is at least five years away.
