Five weeks after issuing an apology and saying they would fix it, Warner Bros. Discovery has finally updated the Max streaming service to properly list writers, directors, producers separately on content pages.
With the relaunch of HBO Max as Max in late May came the quick realisation of an unexpected change to movie credits on the service.
Writers, directors and producers were no longer specifically listed – rather they were lumped together into a category titled ‘Creators’ with no real rhyme or reason to the ordering of the names in that category and no clear indication as to who wrote, directed or produced.
The result was films and series that saw their directors listed sometimes as the sixth name in the list of ‘creators’ – oftentimes behind some of the film’s producers.
The updates are now live on platforms including the max.com website and iOS, and will be rolling out across other device platforms this week.
It’s still not clear why Max had changed the way it presented movie credits on the details pages, especially as HBO Max had them listed properly prior to the inclusion.
A WBD rep at the time said the listing alteration was “due to an oversight in the technical transition from HBO Max to Max.” Part of the issue was thought to have stemmed from the service adding thousands of episodes from Discovery networks which changed up the metadata framework.
