HBO has released an official trailer for its political comedy-drama series “White House Plumbers” based on one of the biggest political scandals in American history.
The series tells the story of how U.S. President Richard Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux) accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect.
The title refers to a covert team of former FBI and CIA operatives established after the publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971 and tasked with stopping leaks of classified information or anything that would paint President Nixon in an unfavourable light.
The five-episode series hails from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel, and is based partly on public records along with the book “Integrity” by Egil and Matthew Krogh.
Lena Headey, Judy Greer, Domhnall Gleeson, Toby Huss, Ike Barinholtz, Kathleen Turner, Kim Coates, Yul Vazquez, Kiernan Shipka, F. Murray Abraham, and John Carroll Lynch star in the series which debuts on May 1st.
The trailer arrives the same day that The New York Times has reported that former U.S. President Donald Trump has been indicted, making him the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges.
