Warners May Pick Up Nancy Meyers Film

Sony Pictures

Following the project’s scrapping by Netflix, Warner Bros. Pictures is now reportedly circling the big-budget Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy feature.

The project was expected to be “The Holiday” and “It’s Complicated” filmmaker’s first directing vehicle in nearly a decade but Netflix and Meyers could not come to an agreement on the budget.

Meyers is said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the streamer didn’t want to go over $130 million – in both cases it’s a very high price for a film in the rom-com genre.

According to THR, exploratory talks are underway with Warners who are “attracted to the idea of a ready-made hot project with an A-list cast and possible summer start date”.

Scarlett Johansson was attached to play the lead role in Meyers’ feature, with Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender also circling the project which was going by the working title “Paris Paramount”.

It’s not clear if the cast will remain intact should it shift to Warners. Meyers will write, direct and produce the film and should the deal go through a theatrical release is expected.

The story centers on a talented young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair make several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally.

The two are forced back together when a great new project arises, and find themselves having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.
