Despite scathing critical reviews and similar poor reviews from audiences, the Jessica Chastain-led horror film “Other Mommy” is doing considerable business.
The title is on track to snag a $27.5 million domestic opening weekend, topping the box-office and coming in well above projections of $20 million.
The title pulled in $12.3 million on Friday on its way to an opening higher than the movie’s $19 million budget.
That’s even with the title scoring a rare D+ CinemaScore, indicating audiences really didn’t like the film and putting it in the same league as films like “Borderlands,” “Die My Love” and “Battlefield Earth”.
While that film is coming in slightly above early estimates, Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Reckoning” is coming in below, with the three-day haul now likely to be $6 million and a fifth-place opening.
Returnees “Verity” ($13.3 million), “Resident Evil” ($7 million) and “Heart of the Beast” ($6.2 million) have taken the second through fourth positions.
“Primetime” and “Digger” also made the top ten. More details tomorrow.
