Paramount Pictures is in early development of a family comedy feature based on the dinner theatre company “Medieval Times”.
Eric Appel (“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”) is attached to direct the film from a script by Blaise Hemingway (“Clifford the Big Red Dog”) and aims for four-quadrant appeal that blends “fantasy, adventure and heart”.
The Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament show is an immersive live experience that has remained North America’s most popular dinner attraction since 1983.
Guests sit in colour-coded sections supporting rival kingdoms, watching knights perform mounted combat, while enjoying a medieval-themed meal. It was featured heavily in the 1990s Jim Carrey comedy “The Cable Guy”.
The film version sees a struggling employee at the Orlando Medieval Times accidentally unleash a real 9th-century knight, along with an ancient evil necromancer.
He has to team with the feral warrior to save the castle, then the world, and finally win the respect he’s always craved. John Davis and Chris Bender will produce the film.
