“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” director David F. Sandberg says that despite the announcement of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios’ new plans, it doesn’t mean a third “Shazam” is out of the question.
On Twitter, a user spoke to Sandberg and said they don’t feel like watching the movie due to all the “drama happening around DC studios” which is “killing the vibe of the film” and wanted an answer as to “whether #Shazam will have a role in future #DCU”.
To his credit, Sandberg responded and said: “He definitely won’t if people don’t go see the movie. What I’ve been told is that there’s nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if that’s what you want your best bet is to go see the film
The future of Levi’s Shazam in the new DC Universe has been one of the question marks left in the wake of the DC Studios announcements at the end of January this year.
With the plug pulled on all other DCEU projects in development like “Man of Steel 2” and a third “Wonder Woman,” how the four films on the DC slate this year will fit into the new vision isn’t clear.
Gunn has said “Blue Beetle” is “totally disconnected” and “can totally be a part of the DCU”, whilst that “The Flash” by its very nature ‘resets’ the DC universe in a way that star Ezra Miller could return.
How the “Shazam” and “Aquaman” sequel fit this vision however ain’t so clear though “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa famously met with gun and was joyously happy with whatever arrangement is in place.
“Shazam: Fury of the Gods” opens in theaters March 17th.
