Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue nearly appeared in the new “Street Fighter” film opening this week, according to one of the film’s stars – musician Orville Peck.
Over three decades ago, a young Minogue played Cammy in the 1994 film adaptation, which also starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia and Ming Na.
Peck, who has previously collaborated with Minogue and remains friends with her, plays Vega in the new take, which opened in cinemas on Friday.
Out talking about the film with Queerty, he revealed he tried to recruit Minogue to make a cameo, but scheduling conflicts prevented it:
“They were trying to get Kylie to do a cameo in our Street Fighter. They were having a hard time getting ahold of her or whatever, and I was like, ‘Guys, I can text her.’ So, I was trying to orchestrate this whole thing, and it didn’t work out with timing. She was gonna be so down to do it.
But of course, I immediately told Kylie when I got cast. She told me how filming their Street Fighter was one of the most fun experiences of her life, and she was like, ‘I’m so excited for you to get to do that.'”
He adds that he’s “still trying to orchestrate” a meeting between Minogue and the Cammy of the new film, actress Mel Jarnson, for a photo.
