Apple has announced a new generation of its Apple TV 4K streaming box, one which offers 50% faster CPU performance, HDR10+ support, and expanded storage along with using nearly 30% less power.
More importantly they’re dropping the price with the boxes starting at $129 compared to the $179 starting price for the prior-generation model. Two configurations are available – Wi-Fi only with 64Gb storage for $129, and Wi-Fi+Ethernet and 128Gb storage for $149.
The Siri Remote for Apple TV 4K also now uses USB-C for charging, but otherwise is the same as last year’s refresh. As with the last gen, the devices also support Dolby Vision HDR along with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital 7.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
The efficiency gains of the new A15 Bionic chip has also made the box smaller and it has eliminated the need for an internal fan. The products will ship beginning Friday, November 4th.
