Reports this week suggest that Sony’s PlayStation Productions could be planning some future release in the “Uncharted” gaming franchise.

According to VGC, developer Naughty Dog’s newly appointed recruiter Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty revealed on her LinkedIn profile she had joined the studio and is “scouting for talent at every level”.

She adds it is “special being able to be building future teams for not only new titles but for the legacy of Uncharted.” This has led to a flurry of speculation as to what’s next for the franchise.

Naughty Dog developed four main titles in the series, along with a standalone expansion and a PlayStation Vita title, and the fourth game fairly definitively closes out the series. Recently the fourth game and the expansion were remastered for PS5 with a PC release of that expected in July.

The use of “legacy of Uncharted” has led to guesses that the PS3-era trilogy, which exists as a PS4 remaster by Sony-owned Bluepoint Games, may also be getting a PS5/PC remaster or remake though previously the possibility had been ruled too expensive and time-consuming due to the age of the games.

Naughty Dog’s other big franchise “The Last of Us,” which saw its first title released for PS3, was also remastered for PS4 but is said to be getting a remake for PS5 that could hit as early as later this year.

Back in January, developers suggested the studio remains open to the possibility of making more “Uncharted” games though could well tackle different aspects of that world.

The franchise is riding renewed interest in the wake of the success of the recent film adaptation starring Tom Holland which is hitting digital this coming week. Check out a new VFX reel from that below:
