Former “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe has been cast as five-time Grammy winner ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic in a new biopic about the groundbreaking comedic musician for Funny Or Die, Tango and Roku.
“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” aims to “hold nothing back” as it explores Yankovic’s life from his meteoric rise to fame with spoof songs like “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” “Dare to Be Stupid,” “It’s All About the Pentiums” and “Amish Paradise”.
The official synopsis amusingly promises to explore his “torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle” and how he went “from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.”
Yankovic says in a statement: “When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule.”
Yankovic and Eric Appel penned the screenplay, with Appel directing the film and executive producing. Filming kicks off in Los Angeles in early February with the movie to be available exclusively on The Roku Channel.
