Knights of Sidonia
Funimation has set a September 13th release date for sci-fi anime space thriller “Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars” based on the manga from Tsutomu Nihei. In addition they acquired TV rights to the anime series and will begin streaming the first two seasons from August 3rd.

The film serves as a conclusion to the series about an alien race threatening to wipe out the human race which lives on the massive spaceship the Sidonia after Earth has been destroyed. [Source: Gizmodo]

Tunnel 29
Telepool Global Screen and Elsani & Neary Media are joining forces to develop a TV series about the creation of Tunnel 29, the 135m secret passage from West to East Berlin that ran underneath the Berlin Wall.

Director Marcus Vetter, who recently made the documentary “Tunnel To Freedom” on the same subject, is involved while “Casualty” creator Paul Unwin will pen the script. [Source: Deadline]

Paper Girls
Stephany Folsom has stepped down as co-showrunner of the currently filming Amazon series “Paper Girls” based on Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s graphic novel about a group of girls caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travellers.

Co-showrunner Christopher C. Rogers now becomes the solo showrunner and production isn’t expected to be impacted on the series from Amazon Studios, Legendary TV and Plan B. [Source: Deadline]

Respect
A new clip is out of Jennifer Hudson playing iconic soul singer Aretha Franklin singing the title song of the biopic “Respect”. Liesel Tommy helms the film which opens in cinemas August 13th.

The film will follow Aretha’s rise from a young girl in her father’s church gospel choir through all the trials and tribulations that come with being the singing superstar known as the Queen of Soul.
