“Queen & Slim,” “Without Remorse” and “Nightflyers” actress Jodie Turner-Smith has been set as the lead in the six-part, live-action limited series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” for Netflix.
The show serves as a prequel to the streamer’s fantasy series “The Witcher” based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series (and its celebrated video games) whose late 2019 launch remains the biggest series launch to date on Netflix.
Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the events of “The Witcher,” ‘Blood Origin’ will tell of the creation of the first prototype Witcher and the events that lead to the “conjunction of the spheres” – an event that merged the worlds of monsters, men, and elves.
Turner-Smith will play Eile, an elite warrior and former Queen’s guardian blessed with a goddess’ voice. Following her heart as a nomadic musician, a reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade.
Declan de Barra serves as executive producer and showrunner while Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko executive produce. Sapkowski serves as a creative consultant.
Netflix is also working on the animated spinoff film “The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf” which offers the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow Witcher Vesemir.
