Abdul-Mateen II Joins Bay’s “Ambulance”

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the new Michael Bay-directed remake of 2005 Dutch thriller “Ambulance” at Universal Pictures.

The original follows two brothers, on the run from the police, who steal an ambulance not knowing it already carried a female paramedic and a patient who is in critical condition.

“Chuck” creator Chris Fedak penned the script for the new take with one of the roles being rewritten to allow a broader casting canvas. Eiza Gonzalez has also been cast as the paramedic.

“Watchmen,” “Candyman” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” star Abdul-Mateen, who has an opening in his schedule caused by a delay in the “Aquaman 2” shoot, was able to slot this in.

Bradley Fischer, William Sherak and James Vanderbilt will produce with filming to begin right at the start of 2021.

Abdul-Mateen II will be seen next year in “The Matrix 4” and has a major role alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in George Miller’s “Mad Max” Furiosa spinoff.
