“Ghost in the Shell” Gets 4K UHD Release

Lionsgate has announced that to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary, iconic anime classic “Ghost in the Shell” will arrive on 4K Ultra HD for the first time on September 8th in North America.

Based on the beloved manga by Shirow Masamune, the film unfolds in the year 2029 as a female cybernetic government agent, Major Motoko Kusanagi, and the Internal Bureau of Investigations are hot on the trail of ‘The Puppet Master’ – a mysterious and threatening computer virus capable of infiltrating human hosts.

Together with her fellow agents from Section 9, Kusanagi sets out on a high-tech race against time to capture the omnipresent entity. Mamoru Oshii helmed the award-winning film which is considered one of the greatest and most influential Japanese animated films of all time.

The disc set is a combo pack with a regular Blu-ray and Digital 4K Ultra HD copy alongside the 4K Ultra HD disc. The feature has been remastered in Dolby Vision HDR and with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Special features include an audio commentary and two new bonus featurettes.
