Paramount Sets A “Cyberpunk 2077” Movie

CD Projekt Red

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action “Cyberpunk 2077” feature film based on CD Projekt Red’s best-selling action-adventure RPG video game.

The game unfolds in the fictional cyberpunk metropolis of Night City in California. At the center of the game is V, a mercenary who gets reluctantly imbued with a cybernetic “biochip” containing an engram of legendary rockstar and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves).

As Silverhand’s consciousness begins overwriting V’s own, the two must work together to separate from each other and save V’s life by confronting the Arasaka Corporation, a powerful megacorporation acting as the de facto ruler of the city.

The film adaptation will be set in the same universe but won’t necessarily be a direct recreation of the game’s story. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce.

The base game has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, while its expansion, “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty,” has sold 15 million copies.

The film joins a number of game-to-film adaptations on the way from Paramount including next week’s “Street Fighter,” March’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” and a “Call of Duty” film.
