It may have won awards and topped many best film lists, but there’s no question George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” was a famously difficult production from harsh filming conditions to two lead actors who famously did not get along.
That tension between actors Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy became the most talked about of the film’s problems and it wasn’t until back in May when both actors opened up about their feud for the first time.
This week, stunt performer Dayna Grant opened up to Metro and about her experience on the film. Grant doubled for Theron and explains the feud between the actors was well known amongst the crew which led to her being used more than you might think:
“It was really hard. It was hard because it was obviously I had to spend time with both of them and both of them didn’t want to be together. Usually Charlize would come in and they’d do scenes together but they didn’t want to do scenes together so I was put in her spot to always be with Tom. Tom’s double was always put with Charlize, so we actually worked with the opposite characters.
We knew right from the get go. We knew from the beginning that it was happening when we were doing the fight choreography…there was tension then. So we were told what was going on. And we were just told to try and make it work as much as possible, which was challenging, because usually you’re all in one big group and working together whereas we were kind of separated.”
Grant added that they were made to go into character and stay in that character “pretty much through the entire job…the whole time we stayed in character.” Grant is tough as nails though, the stuntwoman over her career has had injuries that includes shattering her shoulder, a dagger through the face, and multiple broken bones and multiple concussions.
