The DC Comics adaptation “Birds of Prey” scored good reviews, with plenty of praise going towards the action scenes handled by both director Cathy Yan and much of the stunt choreograph team behind the “John Wick” films.
One of the best ones is the evidence room lock-up scene within the Gotham police department as Harley must deal with both policemen and some escaped convicts who corner her and Cassandra in the room.
The beauty of the sequence is that due to the setting, both she and the goons end up using whatever is lying around the room as weapons, the film having fun with the many options on display and not always going the obvious choice.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, director Cathy Yan revealed the scene was originally going to be even crazier and they had to pull back a little:
“When you set an action sequence in an evidence room, it’s really fun and you can come up with so much stuff. We had so many different ideas. At one point [screenwriter] Christina Hodson wanted a giant double-ended [adult toy] that [Harley] had to fend off. I wanted her to have a big fluffy bear stuffed with drugs that she used as a pillow to fight with. We had to show some sort of restraint. It’s a cheeky movie – unapologetically so.”
The scene already has Harley inflicting bodily injury to many of her opponent’s most sensitive areas from groins to ankles and more. The film recent scored a digital release and is available to buy on Digital HD now.
