“Tiger King” Spurs Interest In “Joe Exotic”

A few months ago came the announcement of the limited series “Joe Exotic” which would be executive produced by SNL alum Kate McKinnon who would also star. At the time it came and went without much fanfare, but in recent days the popularity of Netflix’s new docu-series “Tiger King” has refocused attention back on the news as the limited series covers the same territory.

In “Joe Exotic,” big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon) learns that fellow exotic animal lover, Joe ‘Exotic’ Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit, she sets out to shut down his venture. This begins a quickly escalating rivalry between the pair, and when Joe learns Carole has a checkered past of her own, he stops at nothing to expose her hypocrisy including trying to hire a hitman to kill Baskin.

McKinnon, Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy all executive produce the show which has not been set up at a network or a streaming platform at this point. The scripted series is using Wondery’s Over My Dead Body podcast as the source material.
