“The Punisher” and “Ford v. Ferrari” star Jon Bernthal has been set to headline Showtime’s TV reboot of famed 1980 Richard Gere-led erotic drama “American Gigolo” which has received a formal pilot order.
“Ray Donovan” showrunner David Hollander is spearheading the project which is being crafted by Paramount Television Studios and has been in the works for years. Jerry Bruckheimer will executive produce along with Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.
The present-day reimagining sees Bernthal as Julian Kaye, a man who was arrested for murder as a youth and is now struggling to find his footing in the modern-day Los Angeles sex industry.
At the same time he’s seeking the truth about the set-up that sent him to prison all those years ago and also hoping to reconnect with his one true love Michelle.
Bernthal is currently filming the Will Smith-led “King Richard” film and received multiple offers this pilot season from cable and streaming platforms.
