Terry Notary Talks Playing Teen Groot In “Avengers”

Famed motion capture performer Terry Notary, best known for playing Rocket in the recent “Planet of the Apes” trilogy, will bring his skills to the part of a teenage Groot in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” and the currently shooting fourth film as well.

Speaking with Yahoo, Notary confirmed his casting in the role which was first glimpsed in the post-credits scene in this summer’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. Prior to that we’ve only seen the tree-like Groot as an elderly adult or a young child. With Groot going through puberty around the time of “Avengers: Infinity War”, Notary says that gives him an arc to play:

“Yes, I am playing teenage Groot. I’m having a blast with it. It’s really, really fun. I can’t say too much about him, but he’s coming of age, so you’ll see the teenager find a mentor to look up to and to model himself after. The character’s great, and the films are going to be great. We’ve got such an amazing cast and a great pair of directors at the helm. The Russos allow the actors to jam on scenes together to the point where it just feels great and everybody gets their moments.”

‘Infinity War’ sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes teaming up with the Guardians to take on Josh Brolin’s Thanos and his Black Order. Anthony and Joe Russo helm the film which was shot in Atlanta and will be released in May next year.
