Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been involved in the “X-Men” series for over a decade and has become a key part of the series through it all from the ‘First Class’ trilogy to spin-offs like “Deadpool,” “Logan” and “Legion”.
Kinberg has never directed a film though, aside from having to tidy up some of the failed “Fantastic Four” reboot, and today comes word that he has emerged as the top contender to direct the studio’s next “X-Men” film to shoot later this year.
Collider indicates there is no official offer in place yet, but it’s an idea both sides have been apparently been dancing around for months.
Kinberg wrote the script for the new film, though there is a big question regarding which actors will be back. Contracted deals for many of them ended with the last one.
Kinberg is also currently in casting mode for the “Deadpool” sequel and is helping Josh Boone ready the “X-Men” spinoff “The New Mutants” to shoot in early June.
