Studiocanal has released the first photo from the set of “Yardie,” a new drama that marks the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Idris Elba and is being also backed by Warp Films, the BFI, BBC Films and Screen Yorkshire.

Aml Ameen (“Sense8,” “The Maze Runner”) stars as a young Jamaican named ‘D’ who arrives in London in the early 1980s and unexpectedly crosses paths with the man who assassinated his revered brother in Jamaica a decade before.

His thirst for revenge explodes into a violent street war. The project is an adaptation of Victor Headley’s 1992 novel and has been adapted by Brock Norman Brock (“Bronson”) and Martin Stellman (“For Queen and Country”).

Stephen Graham, Shantol Jackson, Sheldon Shepherd and Everaldo Creary also star. Robin Gutch and Gina Carter are producing the project which will shoot on location in London and Jamaica for seven weeks.
