“Avengers: Endgame” retained the spot at the domestic box office this weekend, adding a further $63.1 million to its $723.5 million total thus far.
In the U.S. it has now passed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther” to become the highest grossing MCU movie to date, and third highest grossing movie overall behind only “Avatar” ($760 million) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million).
Internationally the sequel added a further $102.3 million for an international total of $1.762 billion and a global total of $2.485 billion. Its sole remaining hurdle is “Avatar” with $2.787 billion.
The “Pokemon” franchise’s first ever live-action film “Detective Pikachu” debuted in second place, taking in $58 million which is strong despite mixed-positive reviews. “The Hustle” came in third with $13.5 million and managed disastrous reviews.
Of the returnees, the Dennis Quad-led “The Intruder” fell to fourth with a further $6.6 million and $20.97 million domestic total, while rom-com “Long Shot” took in an estimated $6.125 million this weekend, falling just 37% and bringing its domestic total fo $19.736 million.
