“Criminal Minds” To End With Season 20

Paramount+

After more than two decades, “Criminal Minds” is coming to an end. Paramount+ will finish the long-running procedural series with its twentieth season to air in 2027.

The show launched on CBS back in 2005 and ran through 2020. It was then revived under the new name “Criminal Minds: Evolution” in 2022 on the Paramount+ streaming service where it has continued to air annually with shorter ten-episode seasons.

The show follows the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), a team of profilers tasked with analyzing and capturing the country’s most dangerous criminals, before they strike again.

Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, and newcomer RJ Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster all star in the final season with Erica Messer serving as showrunner. She says in a statement:

“It’s hard to put into words what ‘Criminal Minds’ has meant to all of us who have been fortunate enough to be part of this extraordinary journey, first on CBS for 15 seasons and then on Paramount+ for five. While suddenly navigating the end of this chapter, I’m filled with gratitude for our remarkable cast, writers, directors and crew who have poured their hearts into this show, and for the incredible fans around the world whose unwavering loyalty has kept ‘Criminal Minds’ going for two decades. We’re looking forward to sharing Season 20 with everyone, and celebrating the legacy of this special show we’ve all built together.”

Several attempts were made at spin-offs with “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” scrapped after one season and “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” after two.
