In what could very well be his final screen role before he passed away last month, beloved New Zealand acting icon Sam Neill will reportedly appear in the upcoming live-action “The Legend of Zelda” film at Nintendo and Sony Pictures.
Deadline broke the news, but specifics of Neill’s role are under wraps. They add that neither Sony or Neill’s former representatives have commented.
The film itself wrapped back in April, and Neill’s reveal follows that of three new names who will have key roles in the film.
Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck,” “Dexter,” “The Handmaid’s Tale”) will reportedly play some sort of queen character, Dichen Lachman (“Severance,” “Dollhouse,” “Jurassic World: Dominion”) will play Zelda’s bodyguard Impa, and Uli Latukefu (“Young Rock,” “Marco Polo,” “Black Adam”) will play the villain Ganondorf.
They join Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in the film with other casting on the project under tight wraps.
“Planet of the Apes” franchise helmer Wes Ball directs the film while T.S. Nowlin penned the most recent draft. The movie opens in cinemas May 7th 2027.
